A thought in the process …

April 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As I write this I should be working on the last issue of Barton’s student newspaper, The Collegiate, of which I am managing editor and will become editor-in-chief in approximately three days.

But a brand-new iMac was just purchased for the Collegiate and I just hooked it up about an hour ago, and since I don’t have Adobe CS3, I am typing this.

I am getting a new perspective for a new blog … it will be here, never fear, there will be no more leaping around bloggerville or the blogosphere or blogworld, whatever us geeks are calling the internet these days.

As many of you know, I play baseball at Barton, while as many in the other area of my life know, I am a guy that writes real good and am turning that into a career in journalism. Somedays I’m less excited about that than others, but for the time being, I get to use fancy computers and cool software, so I’m not complaining. (more…)

Freakin’ faith

April 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

Thought:  What says love to your significant someone?  Yelling it in their face, showing your passion for them, or simply whispering it to them with a grin and maybe a cheesy wink?

Typically, the latter.

What proves it to them?  Doing everything for them they say you can do, or doing for them what means the most to them?

Again, the latter.

Yelling and overdoing occurs out of insecurity.  Likewise, to scream at a mountain – or tree – to move or sprinting out over a pool while looking up at God does not prove faith.  Simply doing what he asks you to do is all he needs.  He doesn’t need you to move mountains or run on water.  That’s stuff humans try to do from time to time just because it was mentioned in the Bible.

That mountain was most likely metaphorical, and as far as walking on water, well, unless you need to walk to a boatful of disciples in a storm, I don’t really think it’ll ever be necessary.  God’s not into magic tricks.  Except with Moses, but then, that was to freak out somebody that seriously needed a good freaking out.

And by the way, the talking to mountains thing does work.  Not once has a mountain – or tree – disobeyed when I commanded it to sit still and not move until I come back.
