At 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) Davidson University sharpshooting guard Stephen Curry faces the most formidable opponent of his 2008-09 season in No. 2 Duke University — who are unimaginably yet definitely in front of North Carolina now, which was bumped from No. 1 to No. 3 after its loss to Boston College on Sunday, who jumped into the top 25 (No. 24) with the win.
As I noted in an earlier post, I love this guy. And his bandwagon just keeps getting bigger.
On Pardon The Interruption this evening, Tony Kornheiser said Curry should be the player of the year….although itmight be a bit early to be calling right now. Ol’ Tony makes some dubious claims at times. Like how Michael Phelps didn’t actually win that one medal by .01 of a second. Or how Curry’s Davidson University Wildcats stand no chance against Duke.
But make enough wild statements and you get enough right to look smart, I suppose. And he is the one on television and making — actually, I don’t know, how much does Tony Kornheiser make? More than me, I know that — serious money off what he does. And everyone knows that if you’re on TV and make money you are way cooler and smarter than people who aren’t.
Why did I even watch that show?
Don’t you read Stephen’s shoes, Tony? He can do ALL THINGS!
But be not mistaken, fine fans of Curry and Christ. The Bible verse might read “I can do all things through him who gives me strength,” but God typically lets sports play out the way they should. It’s mighty tough to beat a team coached by the guy who just won an Olympic gold medal.
(Anyone else think this picture makes Coach K look like Steve Carrell? Maybe a smidgen?)
But then, if Duke plays the way Carolina did the other night and Davidson as a whole shoots the way Boston College did, then we could be saying “Upset!” tonight.
While I’m technically supposed to be unbiased as a journalist, I’d like to say, “Stephen Curry, freakin’ light them up!”
Oh yeah, and “Curse you, Duke jump shots/three-pointers/free-throws/layups/halftime mascot shots.”
